About GS Bespoke Woodwork

GS Bespoke Woodwork is a small, independent business run by me, Gaz.

After 22 years serving in the Royal Air Force, I left the RAF in 2025 and started the next chapter doing something I had wanted to pursue for a long time — working with wood and creating things of my own.

My time in the RAF has had a huge influence on the way I approach my business. I genuinely loved my time in the Service, from driving across Europe with NATO to working at RAF stations in the UK and overseas. The discipline, attention to detail and pride in doing a job properly are things that have stayed with me, even though the uniform is now hanging up.

From woodwork to modern technology

What started with a love of wood has grown into a mixture of traditional hands-on work and modern technology.

I work with a range of natural woods, plywood, reclaimed timber, resin and other materials, using whatever is best suited to the project. Alongside hand tools and woodworking equipment, I use CNC machining, laser engraving and 3D printing to create and personalise my products.

I’m always learning and experimenting with new techniques and equipment. That means the range of things I can create continues to grow — from wooden gifts and personalised signs to serving boards, plaques, clocks, coasters, military and aviation pieces, engraved glassware and completely bespoke commissions.

Some products are made almost entirely by hand, others rely heavily on modern machinery, and many are a combination of the two. For me, it’s about using the right tools and methods to turn an idea into something that works.

Made individually, not mass produced

I work alone, so GS Bespoke Woodwork isn’t a large production business. Most of what I make is produced in small quantities, made to order or created as one-off pieces.

That also means I can offer a more personal service. If you have an idea, a particular piece of wood, a special occasion or something you’d like personalised, I’m always happy to discuss what might be possible.

Natural wood is a big part of what I enjoy. Every piece has its own grain, knots, colour and character, and those differences are part of what makes wooden products interesting. No two pieces of natural wood are ever exactly the same, and I don’t try to make them look identical.

More than just wood

Although wood is where it all started, GS Bespoke Woodwork has developed considerably.

Laser engraving has opened up a whole world of personalised gifts and detailed designs. CNC machining allows me to create shapes and designs that would be difficult to produce by hand. Resin adds colour and contrast to natural wood, while 3D printing has introduced yet another way for me to create components and completely new products.

I’m still experimenting, learning and finding new ways to combine these techniques — and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about running the business.

Why GS?

The GS comes from my name, while the deer antlers in my logo reflect my love of the outdoors and the natural materials I work with.

For me, GS Bespoke Woodwork is about making useful, interesting and personal things while continuing to learn and push the business forward.
